Useful Washing And Caring Tips For Your Minky Blanket

Minky blankets are made from polyester instead of commonly used materials like cotton and wool. This doesn't mean that these blankets are very delicate and hard to clean. When it comes to their washing and maintenance, you don't have to break a sweat in cleaning them and keeping them in top condition.

There's no need to use any expensive cleaners or special conditions to wash the blankets. Baby Minky blankets are made from polyester which is not a natural fiber, so you can make sure that regular machine wash of the blankets can never harm their quality.

Tips on machine washing

1. Minky blankets can be washed in your washing machine without shrinking. Washing the Minky blanket by itself is recommended because blending it with regular clothing or other bedding could bunch up this soft blanket.

2. Using cold water instead of hot water for washing helps to lengthen the life of your Minky blankets and any blankets or clothing for that matter.

3. When putting your Minky blanket into a washing machine always make sure to use traditional liquid laundry detergent; you don’t want to end up introducing extra soaps which can overly dry our Minky materials.

4. When you wash a Minky blanket it is best to avoid using gimmicky detergents like pods, they’re convenient but they can ruin the flow of fibers causing them to break down and create an uncomfortable feel against your skin.

Protection against shedding

Shedding is a common problem that is seen in most blankets when they get a bit old. You'll get many recommendations to use a fabric softener to reduce shedding but it affects the lifespan of the blanket. We suggest that you always machine wash your blanket but add a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar to it.

You can use one-fourth cup of baking soda and one-third cup of white vinegar to create a perfect solution to wash the blanket in the machine. It not only prevents shedding but also keeps the soft Minky blankets fresh and clean.

How to dry them?

It is ideal for mink blankets to be hung on a line and allowed to dry naturally, but it can’t necessarily be done outdoors. If you have access to a commercial-grade dryer that comes with a "no heat" option, you can go for tumble drying your blanket. However, doing that could work but you risk damaging the fabric of it otherwise.

You should note that other settings such as those at higher temperatures are not recommended when using mink products as they can shrink or mat up - especially if heavier material is used such as fur or wool.
